UK Champions 2018 - St Laurence O'Toole

Media Center Image

The 2018 major championships continued with the United Kingdom championships at Stormont, Belfast. This was the final year at Stormont but a new deal has been signed to keep the competition in Northern Ireland at Lurgan Park from 2019.

102 bands from around the United Kingdom, Eire, Denmark, Canada and the USA as well as 41 Drum Majors made the trip to Belfast to compete for the title of United Kingdom champion in their respective grades.

Thanks to RSPBA Photographer Peter Hazzard we will have another large gallery of images in the coming days.

Our Twitter feed with close to 8,000 followers was again very popular providing coverage of the Grade 3B and Grade 2 events as well as various updates, images and videos throughout the day. If you're not following us yet, you can view our feed at

We also recorded both Grade 2 and Grade 3B events and these are now available on our RSPBA Youtube Channel.

The Adult Drum Major title was won by Emma Barr from Field Marshal Montgomery, a fantastic start after moving into the Adult grade this season. The Juvenile event was won by Jamie Cupples from MacKenzie Caledonia and Abigail Wenlock from Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia won the Junior grade.

The Grade 1 title went to St Laurence O'Toole from Eire, under the leadership of Pipe Major Alen Tully taking the title by two points over Inveraray and District. St Laurence O'Toole under Leading Drummer Stephen Creighton made it a double by taking the Grade 1 drumming title.
