After the diner hosted by the Northern Ireland Branch of the RSPBA at the U.K. Championships held in Belfast on Saturday 16th June, Mr John Wilson, Convenor of the Adjudicators Panel Management Board made a special presentation to John (Ian) Wood.
Mr John (Ian) Wood known to most of us as Ian, was presented with a special bottle of G.S.McLennan whisky and bottle tray.
Ian is a very experienced Piper from Northern Ireland who joined the RSPBA Adjudicators Panel in 1997. As a piper he played with Ballycoan Pipe Band in Grade Two and Grade One from 1956 to 1963. He then joined a Grade Three band at the time, Field Marshall Montgomery where he enjoyed great success at Grade Three Two and Grade One. Ian was Pipe Sergeant from 1974 until 1990 and during this spell he assisted in leading the band to winning the Grade Three World Pipe Band Championships and fourteen years later saw the Band win their first Grade One competition at the Cowal games.
Ian was the Piping Instructor for the Boys Brigade Company, Belfast. He has also instructed at the Northern Ireland Piping and Drumming School and he is a qualified assessor for the Piping & Drumming Qualifications Board.
As well as an accomplished Piper Ian also trained as a Highland Dancer.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and you colleagues on the Adjudicators Panel good luck for the future and enjoy your retirement.
