 The 2016 major championships got underway at Paisley, Renfrewshire. In a new location at St. James playing fields thousands of spectators flocked to watch almost 4000 pipers, drummers and drum majors compete.
147 bands and 40 Drum Majors made the trip to Paisley for the British Championships.

Our Twitter feed has now grown to over 6,000 followers and was again very popular picking up another 102 followers on the day.
We sent 137 tweets throughout the day providing updates on qualification results, pictures of bands and drum major then every drum major; best drum corps and band results as they were announced from the field, analytics tell us these tweets were seen by over 310,000 people.

The Drum Major events saw DM Lauren Hanna from Drumlough winning the Adult grade for the second time, Caitlin Graham from Upper Crossgare winning the Juvenile grade and 2015 World Champion Jamie Cupples from Killeen winning the Junior grade.
The Grade 1 title went to Inveraray and District led by Pipe Major Stuart Liddell claiming their 1st Grade 1 British Championship title.
The Grade 1 drumming also went to Inveraray and District under Leading Drummer Steven McWhirter (John Henderson pictured).
Field Marshal Montgomery took the runners-up spot finishing 4 points behind Inveraray and District. St Laurence O'Toole (Eire), Scottish Power, Spirit of Scotland and Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia completed the Grade 1 prize list.
