The RSPBA Summer School encourages our students to aim higher in their quest for knowledge, to aim higher in their performance in the competition arena and to aim higher in improving their playing skills.
Our tutors look at the competition grades in which students are currently competing or would be competing, and identify the support required to raise competition standards. We encourage students to challenge themselves in their knowledge and in their performance. Some of last year's young students composed two pieces of music which can be viewed in the Summer School Review 2017.
In recent years, Summer School has been hugely enjoyable for all the students who take part. We hope that this year's event will be even better by bring some of the best piping and drumming tutors to work with our students. (All of our tutors are registered with PVG)
Drum majors have been included in the Summer School for the last two years and we hope to build on that success by attracting even more drum majors this year. The programme for the drum majors is designed to suit all levels - from those aspiring to be a Drum Major, to those currently competing and who would like to enhance further their skills.
We have a new element in the programme for this year. We are looking to attract adult pipers and snare drummers who, if competing, would be at Grade 4 competition level. However, if not competing, they would also be welcome. The adults will form a dedicated group or groups depending on numbers. The focus would be on improving piping and drumming skills and knowledge, with a view to playing or competing at a higher level.
