RSPBA Pipe Band College: Nominations for Geographical representatives to serve on the Pipe Band College

Media Center Image

The 2018 Annual General Meeting approved the formation of the RSPBA Pipe Band College. The main purpose of the College will be to improve standards in Education and Training in piping and drumming leading to improved performance in the competition arena.

Each branch is requested to nominate an individual for the post of Geographical Representative in Piping and another individual for the post of Geographical Representative in Drumming. Nominees must be existing RSPBA members. Post holders will be involved in the planning and delivery of piping and drumming training and tuition. Individuals who are interested must have attained at least SCQF 6 in either Piping or Snare Drumming (or an equivalent) with experience of instructing at a suitable level.

The posts are of a voluntary nature but appropriate expenses will be provided for travel to meetings and participation in training activities. The RSPBA will expect geographical representatives to be members of the PVG Scheme. This will be done by the RSPBA with no cost to individuals.

The Pipe Band College will have within its structure a Principal of Piping and a Principal of Drumming who will support geographical representatives in developing local strategies for supporting bands and raising standards in piping and drumming tuition within their area.

This is a major new development within the RSPBA and is intended to raise standards in education and performance for individuals and bands at branch level and will lead to improving links with our RSPBA membership.

Branches are asked to pass on their nominations for geographical representatives to the Chief Executive, Ian Embelton, by end of December. Individuals who are interested may contact the Education Officer, Pat Whelan to discuss this matter further.
