The theme for this year’s Royal Scottish Pipe Band Summer School will be Level Up!
Nelson Mandela said, “There is no passion to be found playing small–in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” Nelson Mandela didn’t say this in relation to pipe band musicianship, but it demonstrates what the Summer School wants our students to achieve. Summer School 2019 will challenge our students to get to the next level and beyond, in their piping and drumming. Level Up will provide our students with the knowledge, skills and passion to do that, and will also help students to gain a shift in mindset about their playing abilities.
Once again, the RSPBA Summer School will be held in Glasgow Gaelic School. Pipers and snare drummers will attend from Monday 5th. August until Friday 9th. August at a cost of £180. If sufficient interest is identified, Tenor Drummers and Drum Majors will be invited to come along from Wednesday 7th. August until Friday 9th. August at a cost of £120. The RSPBA wants to encourage our young pipers, snare and tenor drummers and drum majors to fulfil their potential as stars of the future in the pipe band scene. This year’s event will be even better by bringing some of the best piping and drumming tutors to work with our students. All of our tutors are registered with PVG and come with a wealth of experience and success in the competition arena.
This year is an exciting year for the RSPBA. We hope to move back to our refurbished headquarters building later in the year. As part of our summer school programme, will encourage and support our summer school students in composing a piece of music to celebrate the opening of our refurbished premises. We hope that this tune will be performed at our summer school final performance on Friday in front of invited guests, parents, friends and family.
Anyone who is interested in attending Summer School 2019 can now register online or who requires more information should contact Pat Whelan, Education Officer, 0141 221 5414. firstname.lastname@example.org
Finally, we want our pipers and drummers to play with passion in their music. Jon Bon Jovi, the American singer-songwriter, record producer, philanthropist, actor and founder and lead singer of the rock band Bon Jovi, said, “Nothing is as important as passion. No matter what you want to do with your life, be passionate.”
