The theme for this year's Royal Scottish Pipe Band Summer School will be Back Home
After many years away the Summer School returns to its historic home and will take place in the newly refurbished Headquarters of The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association in Washington Street Glasgow.
This year sees some new additions to our usual format. The tried and tested program of activity returns for the general group of pipers and drummers.
The Summer School is open for Pipers, Snare Drummers, Bass and Tenor Drummers.
The focus of the school is to use the material contained in the Association's structured learning series to advance the understanding of the individual in their performance of music thus driving the standard of performance across the association membership.
This year we are introducing 'The Chanter Club' and 'Stick and Pad Gang' for young people who are in their first year of learning to play pipes or drums. This will offer age appropriate learning on reading and writing music. Managed between periods of learning and play it is designed to introduce new learners to the basic principles of music that will govern their development throughout their lives.
The second innovation is to introduce a ring-fenced Adult Sumer School with a dedicated instructor.
Designed to offer to the grade four/grade three adult performer the opportunity to spend some time revisiting their instrument management and playing performance. Structured to identify the current level of playing the course will allow the individual to set their own objectives which the course instructor will assist them in achieving.
This year's Summer School will bring new horizons to both students and instructors and is anticipated with a high sense of adventure. We look forward to seeing you there. Stand by for further information as the months progress towards our new school.
Please share this around your friends and your bands.
