Composition Competition Results
The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association through the Pipe Band College set out the framework for a Composition Competition focusing on a 6/8 March of 4 parts with a closing date of the 13th June 2020.
The focus was to provide a challenge to our Juvenile Members to develop an individual Composition as a Melody or Score while they were unable to engage in their normal practice regime due to COVID-19.
The competition also encompasses a Band Combined entry, which required the submission of the Melody and Scores for the Pipes, Side Drums, one Bass drum and up to two Tenor drums.
The RSPBA would like to thank all those who submitted entries to the Competition, as well as the members of the review panel who deliberated on the assessment of the competition entries received: PM Iain Simpson, PM Matt Wilson, Mark Faloon, the RSPBA Northern Ireland College Principal, Paul Brown the RSPBA Drumming Principal and Thomas Brown the RSPBA Principal of Pipe Band Musicianship.
The winners of the Piping Juvenile Individual Composition are:
- 1st Place - The Wilkie Powder Horn - composed by L.A.Rennie
- 2nd Place - Otago Street - composed by Liam Nicolson
- 3rd Place - Cabin Fever - composed by Noa Burt
The winner of the Combined Band Entry Composition is:
- 90th Anniversary March for the Masses - Composed by Uddingston Strathclyde Pipe Band
