The Board of Directors and Staff are sad to announce the passing of our President, Major General David McDowall CBE following a short illness.
General David was born in Stranraer and played the pipes since the age of five and was a member of Stranraer & District Pipe Band. He kept the skill going as a member of the Royal Signals Pipes and Drums. In 2009, when he retired as head of the army in Scotland, he was awarded the honour of being the Lone Piper at the Edinburgh Tattoo.
Appointed to the role of RSPBA President at the 2024 AGM, he enthusiastically attended all the Major Championships as well as many Board and Committee meetings during the year. His considerable experience and wise counsel did much to support the newly elected Chairman and the management team at RSPBA HQ
Our sympathies are with the McDowall family at this sad time.
