Annan has a proud history of Pipe Bands and Pipe Band Contests, and this pride is shared by thousands of spectators on the First Saturday in July. This year the date is 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔.

The Bands compete at Annan Academy playing fields throughout the afternoon in the competition which is run by Dumfries and Ayrshire Branch of the RSPBA. At approx. 18.15 the bands march down Annan High Street, where the competition prizes are presented.

The High Street throngs with Pipe Band music reverberating from the Towns beautiful sandstone building, Street crammed with over 5,000 people, enjoying Pipe Band music. The Massed Pipes and Drums march and counter-march along the ancient High Street, at the conclusion of the Day’s ceremonies immediately after the handing back of the Royal Burgh Standard.

Each Band competing will be given £𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐬, (this is 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲) plus a 𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫 which they take away, to 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬.

In 2026 organisers are also booking non-competition Bands, to play in the Lunchtime Parade, and also take part in the Massed Pipe Bands. These Bands will be paid an Engagement Fee. The parade hits the High at 13.00 hrs and the Massed Bands start at 17.45 and last approx. 1-1.5 hrs.
