The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) announces that Chief Executive Officer Colin Mulhern has formally advised the Board of his intention to step down from his role on 25th March 2027.

Colin submitted his resignation to the Chairman and Board on 20th May 2026, bringing to a close a significant period of service to the Association. During his tenure as CEO, he has played a key role in securing the future of many of the RSPBA’s flagship championships and strengthening the organisation’s position within the pipe band community.

Throughout his time as CEO, Colin has demonstrated a deep commitment to the Association, often dedicating significant unpaid time and effort to support its development and future success. His work has helped modernise operations, strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, and has secured Championship venues for years to come.

RSPBA Chairman Bob Niven commented:

“I would like to thank Colin for steering our Association through what can often be a challenging journey. He has always had the RSPBA at heart throughout his tenure as Chief Executive Officer. We are particularly grateful that he has committed to remaining in post through the 2026 season and has offered his support in helping new personnel settle into their roles during the transition period.”

The Board of Directors extends its sincere thanks to Colin for his dedication, professionalism and service to the Association and wishes him every success in his future endeavours.

To ensure a smooth transition and continued progress for the Association, the RSPBA will shortly begin the process of recruiting a new Chief Executive Officer. Further details, including the job description, person specification and application process, will be advertised in due course.
